New Bed

Last weekend was spent trying to put together Chase's new bed. Greg brought it home last Friday and that was the beginning of a very, very bad day. We went to a store that we had bought our bathroom cabinets from 1 1/2 years ago. We picked out a basic wood twin bed, nothing fancy or expensive. Once Greg began putting it together he realized these problems:
1. the holes didn't line up on the posts
2. the wood dowels didn't fit in the holes
3. the screws weren't the right size
4. the holes on the two runners were too far apart
5. the wood slats that the mattress sits on were too long

Needless to say, it was a very frustrating day. After spending several hours trying to fix these problems, Greg decided just to take the bed back and get his money back. Stores here are not like stores in the States where you can just take your receipt and the item back to the store and get your money. Once you buy something here, it's yours, no returns. I was praying the whole way to the store that we would get the money back with no problems. And after about 10 minutes of "talking" with the owner of the store Greg got most of the money back, which was an answer to prayer. As Greg was telling the owner about all the problems with the bed the owner said things in Egypt are not like things in America, they are not exact and you have to be a little flexible. We just had to laugh at that. I guess you have to be flexible in that your bed will be sitting in a slope and not straight.

So, after that disaster we decided to go to a store that imports their furniture from another country. Then next day we went to the store and decided on a bed and nightstand. They delivered it two days later and put it together in 30 minutes. Although we spent more than we wanted, sometimes it's just worth it not to have all the hassels and frustrations :-)

Chase loves his new bed and we are glad to finally have this task behind us!
